our story
Women Conductors was born as a Facebook group created in 2017 by a group of women conductors from Spain. Our intention at that time was to create a space to give visibility and promote those women who were starting to stand out in the classical music industry. Taking these references into account gave us strength to continue on this path of conducting. We never wanted to make a distinction between men and women to create separation in terms of gender, but rather we wanted people to know that female talent was present, even though it was still a minority. In fact, our Facebook group is inclusive, made up of both men and women.
As women conductors and creators of this project, as we became more and more immersed in this industry professionally, we realized that our value as artists and conductors almost always relied on third parties to obtain job opportunities. It is for this reason that we have created an innovative system based on artistic profiles where the women conductors in our community will be able to build their own network of contacts and their artistic careers with the resources available to them.
Likewise, in our Facebook group, we have been working for a long time on different initiatives with which we feel very committed, such as giving visibility to women composers of new creations, to women who have written books on conducting, to women conductors of the past and of course to women conductors of today, both known and unknown.
Because Women Conductors aims to draw inspiration from the past to motivate the present and build a better future for women in this profession.
